Arad pulled out
2010-03-10 15:30 author: Mézes CsabaRugby Arad have sorrowfully withdrawn from CEE Rugby Cup, after they failed to register a maximum of 5 new players for the playoffs. Managers of the club made this decision without any external pressure.
With great disappointment, CEE Rugby Cup must consider that the withdrawal of Rugby Arad is held.
The original registration deadline was March 1, and Rugby Arad failed to name a maximum of 5 new players. Manager Ovidiu Serban was arguing an extensive change in their line-up and lack of manpower, demanding a longer additional list of players, but after negotiation he stated they would stick to the rules that were announced before the kick-off of the season in August, and comply to every participants.
Rugby Arad were given extra deadline until March 3 but they failed to take off 1 player from a 6-player list they had filed, and chose to withdraw instead. On March 3, Rugby Arad were given another extra week to re-consider their written intent not to continue with CEE Rugby Cup.
There was no response from them since then.
We will be very disappointed for not having a great rugby club like Arad in the CEE Rugby Cup anymore. We also feel hugely sorry for cancelling a game that would have been most arguably one of the greatest in the history of CEE Rugby Cup.
The Quarter-Final game between Arad and Bulldogok is now booked with a 15-0 result for the Hungarians due to forfeiture of the game by Arad.
Bulldogok who are also frustrated after training through the whole winter against a prestigious opponent for nothing, are now promoted to the Semi-Finals and await the winner of this Sunday's Dragon Brno vs Timisoara blockbuster.
